The original length of the Western Wall reaches 488 meters, however the length of the Prayer Plaza is only 57 meters long. Over the years, scholars and researchers were curious to expose the entire length of the Western Wall, although the excavation project didn't begin until after the Six Day War and the reunification of Jerusalem. Excavations revealed the Western Wall tunnels. One of the caverns displays a sophisticated model of the Second Temple which shows what the holy site looked like 2,000 years ago as well as the layout of the tunnels. Visitors will discover a massive 14-meter stone, weighing an estimated 570 tons - one of the largest building stones in the world and an alcove believed to be the closest spot to the Holy of Holies. Additionally, there is the Herodian Avenue, and a walk through the Hasmonean water channels that end in an ancient pool. This tour is an awe-inspiring experience. |
